GOR MAHIA IN AFRICA
Gor Mahia have participated in CAF campaigns on 26 occasions, winning the Africa Cup Winners Cup in 1987 and reaching the finals of the same tournament in 1979.
The team made it to the semi-final stage of the Africa Cup Winners Cup in 1989 and reached the quarter-finals of CAF competitions on 6 other occasions – the latest being a quarter-final appearance in CAF Confederations Cup in the 2018/19 season.
The club’s leading scorer in Africa is Peter Dawo with 15 goals followed by Jacques Tuyisenge with 10 goals and Andrew Obunga with eight goals.
In the CECAFA region, Gor Mahia have won the CECAFA inter-club competitions three times. They beat Abaluhya FC in the finals in 1980 to win the tournament for the first time and retained the trophy the following year by beating Tanzania’s Simba SC in the final. Won the trophy for the last time in 1985 by beating AFC Leopards in the finals played in Khartoum, Sudan.
Gor Mahia’s last appearance in the CECAFA final was in 2015, losing to Tanzania’s Azam in the final.
