How former coach Polack navigated through

Share:

As we start a new chapter with coach Roberto Oliveira, we look back at our former coach Steven Polack in highlights.

Starting the job with the task of navigating the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions league, Polack got off to a perfect start by holding Burundi’s Aigle Noir to a barren draw in his first official match for the club before thrashing them 5-1 in the return leg in Nairobi. Polack became the second coach to see Gor Mahia score five goals in a continental match.

Fans were however unhappy to see the side once again fail to make it to the group stages of the Champions League and were even more disappointed as the team failed to make it to the group stages of the Confederations Cup after consecutive appearances in two seasons.

Polack however made up for it by dominating the local league, the highlights including scoring five past Tusker on the opening day and achieving the club’s second best result in the Mashemeji derby, a 4-1 thrashing of perennial rivals AFC Leopards. Just like Oktay and Kerr before him, Polack ensured that for the third consecutive season, the club did a league double in the Mashemeji derby.

Overall, Polack was in charge of only 23 league matches, the fewest since the club sacked Anaba Awono, winning 17 of them (the best winning ratio in recent times), drawing three and losing three. In all competitive matches, Polack oversaw 31 matches, winning 20, drawing 5 and losing 6.

But how does he compare with our legion of foreign coaches since Zvardko Logarusic in 2012?
