We open the 2020-2021 league campaign tomorrow (Saturday) against Ulinzi Stars at Nyayo stadium.
With the league already 2 rounds old, we will be hoping that a win against the 2010 champions will kick-start the defense of the title.
We first played Ulinzi (then Waterworks FC) in the league in April 1993, emerging 2-0 winners courtesy of goals by Mike Otieno and James Atuto. In an evenly contested fixture, the teams have since met 49 times in the league, with Gor Mahia winning 16 matches against Ulinzi’s 15 and 18 matches ending in a draw.
Former Ulinzi marksman Stephen Waruru remains the top scorer in this fixture with four goals ahead of Gor Mahia’s George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo, Ulinzi’s Elijah Nyasani and Benjamin Nyangweso on three goals.
The last league meeting between the two sides ended in a barren draw in November last year. We are currently on a three-match unbeaten run against Ulinzi.
