Registration for those who will be participating in Gor Mahia election scheduled for August 8 will be closed on Monday by midnight.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Kennedy Mbara, the Secretary of the Electoral Board which comprises of three members (Henry Ogoye – Chairman, Kennedy Mbara – Secretary and Carilus Onyango as the other member) revealed the latest development after the Board’s meeting to set out plans for the coming event.
“As the Electoral Board, we had our small meeting to sketch out our plans on how to deliver free and fair elections at Gor Mahia. The standing word is that voter registration will be closed on Monday after which we will have the voter register on Tuesday from the club to start off our plans – draw up a calendar. This is because the size of voters in terms of numbers will inform our decisions, for instance, the type and size of the electronic system to be used,” Mbara stated.
The independent Board has lined up a number of items to make the elections a success and as confirmed by the Secretary, an appropriate voting platform will be picked, there will be voter education as well as meeting all aspirants and giving prior guidelines to voters on the whole process.
“We’ve lined up a number of items to ensure we have a smooth process. The Electoral Board will settle on the most appropriate voting system/platform, we will issue guidelines and requirements to all aspirants in good time and that will be followed by a meeting with aspirants. Most importantly, we will have to do a voter education so that those participating be familiar with the process before the voting day,” Mbara added.
In order to be eligible to vote, fans are urged to register as club members by paying the annual membership fee of Sh1,200 to the club’s Pay Bill number 350 100, use ID number as the account number.
