Having suffered a defeat at the hands of KCB in our previous match, we take on Posta Rangers today in a catch-up midweek league match at Kasarani from 3.00 pm.
With five losses and one draw in our opening 12 matches and currently placed seventh on the log, this is our most challenging start to a season since 2013 and fans will be hoping that a win against 14th placed Posta Rangers can usher in a run of stability on the field.
Head to Head
Matches against the often-defensive Rangers have never been easy for us. We first played Rangers in the league in 2010, winning 1-0 courtesy of a goal by the then teen sensation George Odhiambo ‘Blackberry’ before winning the return leg 2-0 with strikes from Baldin Ngwa and Julius Owino ‘Awilo’.
The clubs have since gone on to meet 15 times with Gor Mahia winning eight, drawing six, and losing only once. The only loss came in 2011 when we lost 0-3 at Nyayo National Stadium.
Gor Mahia’s biggest win in this fixture was in July 2018 when we ran riot on Posta Rangers with a scoreline of 5-0. Blackberry grabbed a brace in addition to goals by Jacques Tuyisenge, Ephrem Guikan, and Lawrence Juma. ‘Blackberry’ and Jacques Tuyisenge are our highest scorers in this fixture with 3 goals each with Baldin Ngwa scoring twice.
The only player to score for both sides in this fixture is our former captain Julius Owino, a feat that can only be matched by our former midfielder Benard Ondiek who joined the mailmen in the just concluded transfer season (if he gets lucky to score).
